The Thornton Law Firm asbestos trial team, led by Andrew Wainwright, has successfully settled the case of a retired plumber from Salem, New Hampshire. Our client was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2013. Over the course of several days of deposition testimony, the client identified different manufacturers of asbestos-covered boilers and furnaces which he worked on during the 1960s and 1970s, exposing him to asbestos that went on the new boilers and furnaces. He also testified that he was exposed to asbestos on the old equipment that was being removed. Most of the defendants settled in the weeks leading up to trial.
However, two defendants remained when a jury was selected in Brockton Superior Court. One of the defendants settled a few days later. The sole remaining defendant settled moments before opening statements were to be given. The individual settlement amounts and the total aggregate settlement are subject to confidentiality agreements. However, we can say our client and his wife are very happy with the result. No amount of money can truly compensate someone or their family for the pain and anguish of mesothelioma. But it is some comfort to know that one’s family will be well taken care of financially.
Andy Wainwright and Andrea Landry lead the Thornton Law Firm asbestos team. The team has resolved several cases on the Massachusetts asbestos docket’s latest trial list. Compensation was successfully won for a retired sheetmetal worker and an automotive parts salesman, who suffer from mesothelioma. Both clients are very happy that their cases were resolved favorably without requiring the trauma and uncertainty of a jury trial. Both clients will also continue to receive treatment for mesothelioma, and we wish them all the best.
