David C. Strouss
David Strouss heads Thornton Law Firm’s birth defect litigation group. He has devoted the majority of his legal career to representing families of children born with catastrophic birth defects from toxic exposures. The parents of the children he represents were exposed to glycol ethers in semiconductor “clean rooms”, pesticides in agriculture, and a variety of chemicals used in manufacturing.
Mr. Strouss prosecuted and successfully resolved some of the country’s first cases involving birth defects caused by glycol ethers and other solvents in the semiconductor industry. His work as resulted in real change in the semiconductor industry, limiting worker exposures to reproductively toxic chemicals.
Since 2014 Mr. Strouss has obtained settlements in excess of $100 million in cases involving pregnant women in the workplace or the environment who were exposed to ethylene glycol ethers, coal ash and other hazardous substances and had children born with catastrophic birth defects. He currently represents over 150 plaintiffs with birth defects in the United States and South America due to parental occupational and environment exposures.
Mr. Strouss has also litigated cases involving cancer arising from exposure to benzene, solvents and other hazardous chemicals, environmental property damage cases and pharmaceutical drug and medical device cases including Fen-Phen and Vioxx.
Mr. Strouss has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1985. Mr. Strouss is an honors graduate of Brown University and a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law. He is a member of the Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations, the American Association for Justice, and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Strouss was a Special Assistant Attorney General representing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1995 through 1999 in the tobacco litigation, which resulted in a recovery of $8 billion dollars for the Commonwealth.
