We are proud to support Heading Home, Inc., the charitable organization that has been working to end homelessness in the Greater Boston area since 1974. This is the 25th year Thornton Law Firm attorneys and employees have conducted a holiday gift drive, purchasing toys, clothing, and household goods for the families housed by Heading Home. Heading Home provides emergency, transitional and permanent housing facilities in Boston, Cambridge, Everett, Malden, Medford, Quincy, and Somerville.
Formally known as Shelter, Inc., in 2008 the organization moved away from an emphasis on emergency responses to a focus on permanent housing as their strategy for ending homelessness. The name change from “Shelter Inc.” to “Heading Home” reflects this new emphasis on permanent, long-term solutions. Their emergency shelter and transitional programs now focus on moving residents to permanent housing as quickly as possible. Since 2006 Heading Home has created over 350 units of housing, and more than 700 families have been placed in permanent housing since 2010.
Our thanks to Sandi Goodwin and Dawn Venuto and all the employees who helped wrap the more than two hundred presents which will be picked up by Heading Home and distributed to its clients. If you’d like to contribute to the good work being done by Heading Home, go to their website to see the many ways you can make a difference in the lives of the homeless in the Greater Boston area. Let’s help Heading Home fulfill their mission: to end homelessness for good.
